Day 6

Fes city tour

Today after breakfast, our driver will pick you up around 9 am and you will start driving toward the Middle Atlas, discovering different landscapes along the way. Your first stop will be in Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Morocco, where you will have about 20 minutes to explore before continuing through the mountains, passing by Midelt, the capital of apples. If you feel hungry by that time, you can ask our driver to stop wherever you like — there are many restaurants along the way.

After lunch, you will continue driving via the Ziz Valley, reaching Errachidia, one of the biggest cities in the south, then Erfoud, the capital of fossils, before arriving in Merzouga about two hours before sunset. You will enjoy a camel ride from the departure point to the camp for about one hour. A 4×4 vehicle will be with you in case anyone prefers to drive to the camp — the drive is also fun and exciting after hours of traveling through the beautiful landscapes of the Middle Atlas.

Upon arrival at the camp with our driver and camel guide, you will be welcomed with a Berber cup of tea and can relax while enjoying the stars in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. The camp team will take care of all the details, including dinner, tea, drinks, music around the bonfire, and sharing stories about how they live and survive in the Sahara, along with many interesting insights about their daily life.

This experience is truly the highlight of the trip, and you will really enjoy the stars under a very clear desert sky.

Day 7

Fez to Merzouga

Depart early and head south toward the Sahara. Stop in Ifrane, often called the ‘Switzerland of Morocco,’ with its European-style chalets and ski resorts. Continue through the cedar forests of Azrou, where wild monkeys roam.

Pass through Midelt, Morocco’s apple capital, before reaching the dramatic Ziz Valley. By late afternoon, arrive in Merzouga, where camels await. Ride through golden dunes to your luxury desert camp. Enjoy dinner under the stars, with local Tuareg music filling the night air.

Day 8

Merzouga to Boumalne Dades

Rise early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, return by camel to Merzouga. Begin the drive toward Boumalne Dades, stopping at an ancient irrigation canal still in use today.

Next, explore Todra Gorge, Morocco’s own Grand Canyon, with its towering rock walls. Follow the winding Todra Valley before arriving at your hotel in Boumalne Dades, where stunning valley views await.

Day 9

Boumalne Dades to Ouarzazate

Day 11

Marrakech city tour

Today, after breakfast at your riad, our driver will come to pick you up to begin a city tour of Rabat. You will discover the Hassan Tower, the Kasbah of the Oudayas, and the Royal Palace (exterior visit). A stop will also be made at the Chellah Kasbah for photos.

After approximately two hours of exploring with your guide, you will start driving toward Fes, stopping in the imperial city of Meknes along the way. You will also visit the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, where you will have about one hour to explore the site. The entrance fee is included. A local guide is optional (approximately 30 USD), or you may explore the ruins on your own if you prefer.

After the visit, we continue the drive to Fes. Arrival is expected around 4:00–5:00 PM, where you will be dropped off at your riad located inside the old medina to enjoy a unique stay in a different atmosphere. The riad is situated near the largest and most visited gate of Fes, Bab Boujloud (the Blue Gate).

You may explore the medina on your own if you wish, or relax and wait until tomorrow morning to begin a guided city tour with our local certified guide to discover the hidden treasures of Fes.

Overnight at the riad.

Essaouira

Day 12

Marrakech to Essaouira

This morning, you’ll be met at your hotel and transferred to Essaouira. Along the way, stop at an Argan oil cooperative. Here, you can observe the traditional oil-making process. Local women start by cracking Argan fruits with sharp stones to extract the kernels. Next, they roast the kernels to bring out the flavor, then let them cool before grinding them into a thick oily paste using a traditional rock grinder (Azerg). One woman mixes this paste with warm water and kneads it by hand, allowing the pure Argan oil to rise to the surface. The leftover dough, or Tazegmount, is protein-rich and used for cosmetics and animal feed. After learning about the entire process, enjoy a Berber lunch at the cooperative. Finally, continue to Essaouira, where you’ll have the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at the hotel.

Essaouira Boat

Day 13

Free day in Essaouira

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, then explore Essaouira. This small, easily navigable beach town is perfect for self-guided exploration. With a rich multicultural history, Essaouira blends Portuguese, French, and Jewish influences. Its mild climate and expansive sandy beaches make it one of Morocco’s top beach destinations. The walled medina, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2001, showcases European military architecture in North Africa. As you wander its narrow streets, admire the colorful shops, whitewashed houses, and heavy wooden doors. The mellow atmosphere makes it a perfect place to relax and stroll. Overnight at the hotel.

El Oualidia

Day 14

Essaouira to Casablanca

On your journey from Essaouira to Casablanca, you’ll follow the breathtaking Atlantic coastline. Along the way, make a stop at El Oualidia, a peaceful seaside town. Here, you can enjoy a fresh seafood lunch by the lagoon, famous for its oysters. These oysters are harvested from the calm waters of the lagoon, offering a true taste of the region.

Continue your journey to Asfi, a city known for its rich history and striking architecture. Take a walk through its vibrant medina and admire the whitewashed buildings. The El-Jadida district, a UNESCO World Heritage site, features well-preserved Portuguese architecture, including the 16th-century Mazagan Fortress and the atmospheric cistern.

After soaking in the sights, you’ll arrive in Casablanca, Morocco’s commercial hub. The city’s modern energy contrasts beautifully with the rich history along your route. This scenic journey combines coastal beauty, cultural experiences, and historic landmarks, making it an unforgettable day.

Do I really need travel insurance?

Yes. Without exception.

While Morocco is a safe and welcoming destination, international travel always carries variables that are outside your control. Because Genuine Morocco prioritizes your safety and the integrity of your investment, we view travel insurance not as an “extra,” but as an essential part of your packing list.

  • The “Private Clinic” Factor: Morocco has excellent private healthcare in cities like Marrakech and Fes, but these facilities typically require upfront payment in cash or credit before treatment. A comprehensive policy ensures you are reimbursed for these costs.
  • Medical Evacuation: If you are exploring the remote dunes of the Sahara or the trails of the High Atlas, the cost of emergency transport to a major hospital can be astronomical. We want to ensure you have “Medevac” coverage for total peace of mind.
  • Protection of Your Investment: Our boutique tours involve non-refundable deposits for high-demand Riads and specialized local hosts. If a flight delay or a family emergency forces you to cancel, insurance protects your hard-earned travel budget.

Short answer: 6 to 12 months is the “Sweet Spot.”

Because we operate as a boutique agency, we don’t use large, cookie-cutter hotels with hundreds of rooms. We hand-pick intimate Riads and luxury camps that often have only 5 to 10 rooms total.

  • For Peak Season (Spring & Fall): March through May and September through November are the most beautiful times to visit, but they are also the most popular. To secure our first-choice Riads and our most senior expert hosts, we recommend booking 9 to 12 months in advance.
  • For Off-Peak or Last Minute: If you are planning a winter escape or a summer journey, 4 to 6 months is usually sufficient.

The “Genuine” Benefit of Planning Early: Booking early isn’t just about logistics; it’s about the design. The more lead time we have, the better we can customize your route, securing that specific room with the desert view or that private cooking class with our favorite village chef.
